Hello there! I’m Lauren, an almost-30-year-old lover of food, fitness, writing, music and enjoying life. If you judge me by my yellow VW Beetle or any given personality test, I’m bubbly and overly optimistic, but I think those who know me would say my realism and sense of humor temper all that positivity. I’m fascinated by people, the ones I know and complete strangers alike, all of us trudging along separately, trying or not trying to see the world through another’s eyes. I like to think I’m a good listener.
I live with my husband, Jeff, and our persnickety miniature schnauzer, Sydney, in the Broad Ripple neighborhood of Indianapolis, a funky and walkable borough a few miles north of downtown. I cook us delicious meals; Jeff does the dishes. We consume media and good beer in equal parts and attend more concerts annually than our future post-children selves will likely be able to fathom. It’s a good life, to be sure. After seven wonderful years building our life together, several of them spent in the Boston area, Jeff and I were married October 9, 2011, at Union Station in downtown Indianapolis. People will tell you no matter how long you’ve been together, marriage is a totally new ball game. I respectfully disagree.
While I loved the Boston experiment, my love of Indianapolis runs deeper, and anyone who tries to complain about how there’s nothing to do in this town while in my presence will receive a re-education.
When not working my day job at a nonprofit women’s organization, I like to write. I’m a member of the Indianapolis chapter of Women Writing for a Change, a national organization dedicated to encouraging women to let their voices be heard. The group means a lot to me and has contributed to my personal growth immensely. See this post for more on that.
On the food and fitness front, I’m currently completing my first Whole 30 challenge in an attempt to put my paleo-leaning food philosophy to the test. I recently completed my first 10K, and I also enjoy spinning, yoga and daily dog walks.
Thank you so much for stopping by!
